LSO

Smile! It’s Latent Semantic Optimisation (LSO)

Latent Semantic Optimisation (LSO) takes into account so-called semantic areas when creating texts. This helps to improve positioning in search-engine results.

What is Latent Semantic Optimisation (LSO)?

The largest search engine in use on the Internet, Google, has started working with so-called Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI). This means that more than just the keywords entered are considered during a search – technology has reached a point where it is now possible to create a search profile based more on human factors. Google also searches for connections within the texts, despite the fact that these do not explicitly appear in the search request. If you would like to improve the ranking of your own website, it is paramount to conduct thorough LSO research. Relevant keywords that have a close semantic link to the keywords entered into the search engine should appear on a website. The process of incorporating these keywords into a text is described as Latent Semantic Optimisation (LSO).

LSO can be explained using a fairly simple example.

Think of a homonym such as “bank”. Now when a user performs a search with Google for “bank” and “money”, the probability is quite high that he or she is trying to find information about a variety of financial institutions. A text, which contains the following phrase “and while I was sitting on the banks of the river, I found some money”, is probably of no interest to this user.

Google now acts on behalf of the user, continuing its search for other important keywords that are semantically linked to those above. In this case, such words could include “account”, “investment” or “interest”. Of course, the search engine does not “understand” the actual meaning of the words, but rather it compares commonly used terms from other relevant sites that appear in connection with this search word. As a result, Latent Semantic Optimisation (LSO) has a significant impact on the search engine ranking of a website. At Textprovider, we have a wealth of knowledge and experience inLSO, and our authors have been trained by us in this special keywording technique. Deciding on appropriate additional keywords (LSO) and placing them accordingly often ensures a steady (and rising) number of hits.
